Anyone that knows me knows my true love for Starbucks and the many “regular” drink orders I have. Recently, I received the most amazing baby shower gifts from one of my favorite people! I still have the text from Steph giving me hints about my gift…

I hate surprises! I trusted Steph though and knew that she knew me well enough that any gift she got me and baby Max would be amazing! Boy, was I right!!

Let me tell you guys a little bit about this great gift… Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, started this amazing project called #thebellyartproject a while back and I can’t help but tell every pregnant lady I meet about it {and trust me, it’s now my go-to baby shower gift}. Here’s a little description I pulled from their website that held further explain the project…

———————————-

The Belly Art Project is part book, part movement, and part celebration of the mother in all of us—the beautiful, creative, inventive spirit that connects everyone.

Created by Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx and the Sara Blakely Foundation just before the birth of her first son, this gorgeous, sometimes hilarious exercise in elevating the amazing physicality of the pregnant body with paint, props and trompe l’oeil magic morphed from a family photo opp into a full-blown cause for mothers everywhere via partnership with Every Mother Counts.

More than 100 moms-to-be bellied up to the cause, including celebrities like Kate Winslet (mother of three), and Milla Jovovich (mother of two); business leaders like Zanna Roberts Rassi, fashion editor and TV host, and Stacey Bendet, founder and CEO of Alice and Olivia; as well as everyday women from all over the world.

Creating this book was wild—kind of like motherhood itself. It inspired us immensely to hear the stories of our mom-models and share a day celebrating their baby bumps. But more than anything, we hope it inspires you to pick up a paintbrush, adorn a belly and help a mom. We already know moms change the world; this is just one more way.

When texting Steph I knew I had to come up with something as original, funny, and belly worthy as the women in Sara’s book and online… and then it hit me, STARBUCKS! The logo is shaped perfectly, it’s something I adore, Max will love, and it’s just plain fun!

Immediately I tried to think of punny phrases, Instagram captions, and photoshoot ideas! Luckily, my little sister is a photographer and loves helping me out and doing fun things like this, so I was covered there! Next thing to do was call Starbucks and make sure I wasn’t going to get kicked out for having my belly out! To my surprise, Starbucks was all for it! The manager I spoke with absolutely loved the cause and couldn’t wait to see me when I arrived!

My surrogate big sister, Glory, was next to contact. She’s finishing up law school and was very happy to step away from all the chaos that that is! We stenciled out my belly and got to painting. It didn’t take long for my type A personality and Glory’s shaky lawyer hands to cause us to change roles. I ended up painting a lot of my belly myself, upside down. I was better at it than I though I would be!

When we got to Starbucks the whole staff was so excited to see what I had done and in exchange I got to tell them all about this amazing movement I was participating in… which I could have done for days!

Painting my belly was so therapeutic and truly reminded me how beautiful pregnancy and my body really is. Did it tickle? Of course! Was I extremely uncomfortable in Starbucks at first? You betcha! But I know this is a memory I will always cherish and something I hope every woman gets to do!

Kate – where did you get that great grey sweater you’re wearing in those photos? My BFF is looking for something similar and that one’s perfect. Thanks so much!
